Even the concept of stretching the muscles before a run can be incorporated into everyday activities. Establishing an exercise routine that includes a few basic stretches and proper breathing techniques at the beginning of each day will benefit your overall health. So… enjoy the article.

When Was The Last Time You Warmed Up Your Lungs Before You Went On A Run?

Have you ever noticed people getting ready for any sporting event, to get the best performance from their bodies they always warm it up first to get the blood flowing.

But what about the lungs? Its all good and well getting your body ready for a good workout but if the supply of oxygen to the muscles is poor because of bad breathing habits its easy to see you’re not going to get the best from them.

Here are some tips to start you on the right path.

• Make sure you get in the habit of setting aside some extra time to do a little breathing exercise to prepare your lungs for the job ahead. It won’t take as long as your stretching exercises but its just as important if not more. For the first 5-10 minutes do a little amount of walking as you’re doing this focus on your breathing.

Start to relax your belly on the inhale this allows your diaphragm to go down into its fullest position and thus fill your lungs to fill to a greater capacity. Then on the exhale retract your belly back in towards your spine thus helping the diaphragm to fully contract and empty the lungs better. (you want to get as much of that stale air out as possible before you breathe in again!) It may take a little while to get use to doing this but stick with it and remember how much you’re muscles are going to thank you for this added oxygen flow.

• When you’re out on your run try to breathe for as long as possible through your nose, this filters unwanted debris out of your air ways and helps to warm the air in the nasal cavity before it enters your lungs (especially important on those cold mornings.)

These new breathing techniques may be hard at first to get used to but your body will adapt over time. You may even notice a difference in your running times,.. you might not be setting world record times but hey who knows what might happen??

Homeopathic Remedies for Food Poisoning

Summer is your perfect opportunity to go to the beach or have an outdoor picnic. Unfortunately your fun could be ruined by food poisoning and diarrhea, which frequently accompany these warm weather activities. Food poisoning occurs when undercooked meats and dairy products (like mayonnaise mixed in coleslaw or potato salad) are not refrigerated and sit out too long. Other remedies should be used only when you can see their most prominent symptoms or cannot find clear symptoms that match the following summaries.

Arsenicum Album (made from oxide of arsenic):
This remedy is especially useful for the treatment of food poisoning. If you have any doubt about which remedy to use, try Arsenicum. In most cases, it gives some relief. Take Arsenicum if you see these signs.

• Stool is liquid, frequently looks like rice water and it burns.
• You are thirsty for small sips of cold water.
• Anxious, chilly, restless.
• Diarrhea may be accompanied with nausea and/or vomiting. If vomiting is severe and frequent, think about Veratrum album (see below).
• You feel better: from warm applications to the abdomen.

Podophyllum (made from may apple):
People who need Podophyllum do not show a lot of anxiety (opposite of Arsenicum)—they are simply tired and exhausted from having diarrhea. Unlike in cases that require Veratrum Album, there is no vomiting in cases that require Podophyllum. Take Podophyllum if you notice the following indications.

• Abundant, watery, noisy, explosive diarrhea.
• Much gas.
• Stool soils the entire toilet bowl and the buttocks.
• You feel worse: from heat, hot weather (compare to Arsenicum), and any motion.
• You feel like fainting, very weak.• Gurgling before stool.• Empty sensation after stool.
• Stool often has terrible offensive odor.
• May have a headache from diarrhea.

Veratrum album (made from white hellebore):
The key factor in the determination that this is the right remedy for you is that you are experiencing severe exhaustion, as well as diarrhea in combination with vomiting. Use Veratrum to relieve food poisoning and sickness that involves the following combination of symptoms.

• Diarrhea accompanied by cold sweats, especially on the forehead.
• Diarrhea that occurs simultaneously with profuse, forceful vomiting (compare to Arsenicum)
• Exhaustion, weakness, may even faint after stool or after vomiting.
• A peculiar sensation of feeling coldness in the abdomen (occasionally reported)
• You feel worse: from heat (compare to Arsenicum)

Living Healthy – What about Water?

Each of us should strive to better our whole being, meaning mind, body, and spiritual aspects. The body part of that is usually looked at from the point of the “body as a whole” from both the Medical and Health Industries perspectives. That is not necessarily wrong in that what goes on in one part of the body can affect other parts of the body as well.

So, while it is important to address the body as a whole it is also important to view it as individual cells, by which it is composed. By taking into consideration the vast number of cells and their needs, you can provide the appropriate attention to the conditions that face them, improve your health and wellness and eventually help yourself to live a longer, healthier life.

When we look at the body, its cells, and what it (the body) is made of we discover that most of our construction is made of water. That’s right, the human body consists of approximately 70% (average) water. And to make it even more interesting, each individual cell has water in it.

Major dehydration leads to death. Minor but consistent (chronic) dehydration leads to sickness, disease, lack of energy, and poor brain function. You may be dehydrated and not even realize it, most people don’t… until they end up in the hospital.

One of the statements almost all Doctors agree with is that the average person needs to drink at least 8 glasses (8 ounces each) of water daily BUT… there is a problem with that “general” statement.

Drinking water out of your kitchen tap results in your putting foreign chemicals in your body, chemicals that have proven to cause Cancer. To be more specific, Fluoride or Chlorine, Both are chemicals which are commonly “Mandated” (required to be added) by many Government Agencies overseeing Municipal Water Systems. Not only that, other impurities are picked up while traveling through the miles of pipes on the way to your home.

Obviously we can’t tell the Water Company to exclude Fluoride (or Chlorine) from our individual supply but we can filter it, and the other impurities, out at our point of consumption.

Even if you have a well you draw water from, the odds are that there are contaminants in the ground that are passed on to that water also. It seems our Industry and Agriculture practices have made access to truly clean and healthy water nearly impossible.

There are plenty of filtering systems available for home applications that any of us can make use of. I use a Brita (brand name) Pitcher filter for drinking water for both people and pets in our home. It is simple to use and the water tastes much better. There are other brands of similar design that do essentially the same job. Under sink and whole house filtering systems are also available.

You do want to get a “filtering” system only and NOT a water softening system. It is my opinion that water softeners add foreign chemicals to the water that the human body cannot process properly and also passes those same chemicals on to the environment. What that means is that you are not only polluting your own body but also the world we live in.

New research has uncovered some amazing things one can do to improve ones quality of life without the use of expensive water softening systems or putting foreign chemicals into your body and the ground.

Most people that have installed water softening systems in their homes have done so because they have a “hard water” problem. Fortunately recent research in the study of “water” has resulted in new products that can alleviate that problem while still being ecologically friendly. One of the largest subjects in the arena of Holistic Cures is Homeopathy. And as such is the fact our first post concerns that subject.

Is Homeopathy Safe?

You have visited a study group, bought a homeopathic over-the-counter remedy or investigated the use of a single remedy on the advice of a friend. You have had a small success and would like to use homeopathy to tackle a more important health problem, or you want a homeopath to take care of your family. Where do you go from here?

Homeopathy is practiced by a wide variety of health-care practitioners, including medical doctors, osteopaths, naturopathic physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, veterinarians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, nurse midwives, and podiatrists, as well as by professional homeopaths, which practice only homeopathy and are unlicensed in any other discipline.

The problem for the consumer is that the practitioners’ level of competence in homeopathy often has little to do with his or her type of licensure. The best test of qualifications is whether they have been certified in homeopathy. The CCH credential (Certified Classical Homeopath) is excellent, as well as the DHt (Diplomate in Homeotherapeutics, available for MDs and DOs), and the DHANP (Diplomate of the Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians, available for naturopathic physicians). For veterinarians, the credential CVH indicates that they are a Certified Veterinary Homeopath.

What kind of questions will help you identify your chosen practitioner? The questions will certainly vary with each case, but a few pertinent ones might be: Does the practitioner specialize in homeopathy? Does the practitioner use classical homeopathy? Where was the practitioner trained? How long has the practitioner actively been using homeopathy? Has the practitioner had experience with the diagnostic category in which your condition fits?

Some other important issues might be: how distant the practitioner is from your home and whether or not your insurance company will cover the visit. As a general rule, if the type of practitioner is covered by your insurance, then the visit will be covered. You may also consider whether the practitioner includes other therapies in his or her practice and if you would like to use those therapies.

The choices open to you will vary according to where you live. If you are in a major metropolitan area, you will have more choices, although many practitioners are spread throughout the United States. Remember; use the resources close at hand, and good luck with your homeopathic experience.
